The primary purpose of the token was to grant access to a secured public restroom facility, which helped businesses reduce vandalism, lower maintenance costs, and prevent non-customers from abusing the facilities. Patrons would insert a token into a special Nik-O-Lok door lock mechanism to unlock the door. Once inside a single-occupancy restroom, a lever could be used to lock the door and indicate it was in use, automatically resetting the coin slot on the outside. Great Find!
