Founded in Philadelphia, PA in 1839 by George Washington Simons and later joined by his brother, Peter B. Simons, the Simons Bros Co. became popular for their gold and silver thimbles and pen cases. They were considered pioneers in the movement towards industrialization because of their innovations within the metal manufacturing industry. During and shortly after the U.S. Civil War, the company was responsible for creating officers' presentation swords and cases. At the 1893 Colombia Expedition they were awarded a medal for their excellently crafted thimbles. Thimbles from this company are highly sought after today, making this an excellent addition to any collection!
