This listing is for a Vintage Elongated Indian Head Penny Cent 1859. The 1859 Indian Head is a one-year Type of coin and is the first year of the Indian Head cent series. This is an elongated 1859 Indian head cent. To elongate coins, they are created by passing a coin through a rolling mill, which stretches the metal and alters the shape. Indian Head pennies were flattened primarily to be used as "nickels" for payphone currency. The flattened coins could then be inserted and read as a nickel. Great find!
